She never knew what was waiting for her…

Retired FBI evidence specialist Emely Navarro has the kind of busy but docile life she’s always wanted. It’s enough for her to be the wife of hot-headed Maui detective Mak Navarro, and devoted mom to their two rambunctious kids.

Running a birthday luau business with her best friend gives her enough drama…and the capacity to handle anything. Or so she thinks. One rainy morning, tragedy strikes. Emely’s aunty Keke, and her daughter, three-year-old Anuhea vanish. Emely is distraught since Keke raised her and her brother Keo. Where does she start looking? Emely’s instincts lead her to Keke’s twin sister, the often difficult Nalani, a constant nightmare with her history of drug and alcohol addictions and a recent period of homelessness. Unfortunately, Mak can’t stand her, so Emely is often left to deal alone with her aunt. Even Keke despairs of her, but now, Nalani seems to finally have her life on track. Could she have anything to do with her sister being missing? Nalani claims to have no knowledge of her whereabouts. Mak is working hard on an international smuggling case and doesn’t have time to deal with the aunties’ nonsense. He suggests if Keke is really missing, to file a police report. Though hurt by her husband’s indifference, Emely takes the first steps by going to Keke’s house searching for clues. There, she discovers some shocking things about her favorite aunty. Joining forces with Mak’s frequent partner, Jericho Garcia, Emely uncovers a secret plot so sinister it shocks her, and there’s nobody to help her. Her life now at risk, Emely digs deep to save her aunty and herself. But is she too late? They say it’s darkest before dawn, but for Emely, dawn just seems to get darker and darker…
